2 February- World Wetlands Day

Wetlands are among the most valuable resources on the planet. They form rare ecosystems and host a vast wealth of plants and animals, many of which are endemic, rare, or endangered.

For humans, wetlands are invaluable:

  • They provide water for drinking & irrigation
  • They replenish underground aquifers
  • They protect against floods & improve water quality
  • They offer food, fisheries & grazing for livestock
  • They support research, education & recreation
  • They help mitigate climate change

It is crucial to legally protect wetlands at risk, eliminate the causes of their degradation, and restore affected areas. This will contribute to ecosystem balance, water management, and adaptation to climate change.

Wetlands are our future! Let’s protect these precious habitats before it’s too late!
