The “Smart Cities, Smart Regions: Digital Governance and Smart Cities” conference, organized by the Hellenic Association of Information Technology & Communications Enterprises (SETPΕ) as part of the 33rd MONEY SHOW, was successfully concluded. During the first roundtable discussion, titled “Synergies between Local Government & Enterprises for Digital Transformation,” Mr. Georgios Tsakoumis, Founder & General Director of Consortis Geospatial, actively participated in a constructive dialogue alongside senior officials from central and local government. Other distinguished participants included:

During his speech, Mr. Tsakoumis outlined the primary challenges that local governments face when working with private sector partners, emphasizing four key areas:

  • Funding: The difficulty of securing financing for geospatial projects.
  • Technological Infrastructure: Outdated technologies and inadequate maintenance of past projects.
  • Specialized Personnel: The lack of trained professionals to manage modern geospatial tools effectively.
  • Regulatory Framework: The absence of a unified and clearly defined framework for implementing geospatial data projects.

He also underscored the critical role of geospatial data and GIS analysis in optimizing municipal services, from urban planning and infrastructure management to automating maintenance processes. Furthermore, he highlighted the potential of drone technology, satellite imagery, and IoT sensors in crisis response and disaster management.
