Kick-Off Meeting | Lake Vistonida Water Management Plan
On Wednesday, 18 February 2026, the Kick-Off Meeting for the project
“Lake Vistonida Water Management Plan and Delimitation – Determination of the Foreshore and Beach Zone” was held in Komotini, marking the official launch of a highly significant study focused on the protection and sustainable management of a unique wetland of national importance.
The event opened with a keynote address by the Secretary General of the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia–Thrace, Dr. Dimitrios Galamatis, who emphasized the importance of the project in ensuring the rational management of water resources and safeguarding the natural environment.
A welcome address was also delivered by the Regional Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Mr. Christodoulos Topsidis, who highlighted the strategic role of the study in supporting the sustainable development of the region and fostering effective cooperation among all involved stakeholders.
During the event:
• Dr. Antonis Chatziyiannis, Project Coordinator and Head of the Hydraulic Works Department at CONSORTIS, presented the project scope, methodological approach, and upcoming implementation steps.
• A constructive dialogue followed with participating stakeholders, aiming to establish a common framework for coordination and collaboration.
