Presentation of the ISI Study for Rhodope – Nestos by Consortis
On February 19, 2025, the Integrated Territorial Investment (ITI) Study for the Mountain Zone of Rhodope and Nestos River was successfully presented at the multipurpose hall in Kato Tholos, Municipality of Paranesti. The study, commissioned to Consortis Engineering Consultants, focuses on fostering sustainable development in the region by leveraging its natural resources.
The findings were presented by Assistant Professor and Scientific Collaborator of Consortis, Ms. Anastasia Tasopoulou. The study is structured around key development priorities:
- Resource Management: Showcasing the region’s unique identity, ensuring the sustainable use of its natural assets, and unlocking its tourism potential.
- Economic Growth: Encouraging entrepreneurship with an emphasis on quality tourism, agri-food innovation, and environmental sustainability.
- Infrastructure Development: Improving connectivity, enhancing public utility infrastructure, and upgrading the residential environment.
- Social Cohesion: Enhancing quality of life for residents and creating new employment opportunities.
- Environmental Protection: Preserving biodiversity, mitigating environmental risks, and adapting to climate change.
Key representatives from Consortis attended the event, including CEO Mr. George Tsakoumis, Technical Director Ms. Alexandra Peitsi, Head of Land Planning & Development Department Ms. Chara Kyriakidou, and Head of Environment & Energy Department Ms. Achi Mantouza.
A notable presence was that of Regional Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Mr. Christos Topsidis, who underscored the study’s strategic importance for regional development and pledged support for its implementation. The event was also attended by representatives from local government, regional organizations, and the Municipality of Paranesti, reinforcing the collaborative effort for the area’s growth.
The ISI is expected to generate substantial benefits, including job creation, ecotourism expansion, and improved infrastructure, fostering sustainable regional development.
