Amendment of the Environmental Impact Assessment for a 5-Star Hotel Unit in Sfakia.

Consortis possesses extensive experience in the preparation and amendment of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), as well as in-depth knowledge of Greek and European legislation. This contract pertains to the amendment of the EIA for a five-star hotel unit with an accommodation capacity of 88 beds, located in the Municipality of Sfakia, Region of Crete.

The Challenge

The amendment of the EIA was deemed necessary due to planned changes in the location and infrastructure of the hotel unit. Specifically, an update of the permit and the study is required due to:

  • an increase in the number of rooms with a fixed number of beds
  • the addition of new building facilities
  • the creation of new parking spaces
  • the installation of photovoltaic panels.

Compliance with the legislative restrictions is necessary for the project.

The Solution

Consortis undertook the amendment of the EIA to comply with updated environmental regulations, considering the project's location within the Natura 2000 protected area ("White Mountains National Park", ZVDFP-03, "Asfendou - Kallikratis"). The process prioritised maintaining the unit's character, with a focus on promoting sustainability and enhancing infrastructure while ensuring the facility's use remains unchanged.

Benefits

This contract provides significant benefits for both the hotel unit and the local community, including:

  • enhanced services quality and improved competitiveness for the hotel
  • facility’s sustainability
  • advancement of environmental awareness
  • compliance with regulatory frameworks protecting the natural environment and proper management of natural resources
  • strengthening the local economy by generating new employment opportunities
