Investigation of Rehabilitation and Organization Potential for Informal Industrial Clusters (IICs) in the Region of Central Macedonia
Consortis, as part of a corporate partnership, has been contracted to provide consultancy services to the Regional Development Fund of Central Macedonia for the investigation of rehabilitation and organization potential for Informal Industrial Clusters (IICs) in the region.
The Problem
The Informal Industrial Clusters in the Region of Central Macedonia are characterized by a lack of institutional organization and significant environmental and operational issues. The absence of appropriate spatial planning and rehabilitation policies has resulted in sustainability challenges and hindered the growth of businesses operating in these areas.
The Solution
The project aims to develop a comprehensive framework of actions for the rehabilitation and organization of IICs, focusing on key objectives:
- Identification and Assessment of IICs: Mapping 30 IICs in the region and analyzing their characteristics and technical dimensions according to current legislation
- Prioritization of IICs: Ranking IICs in need of rehabilitation using multicriteria analysis, with the goal of transforming them into Business Parks of Rehabilitation (BPRs)
- Spatial Planning: Designing policies and measures for the reorganization of IICs, ensuring the sustainability of existing activities
- Development of the Kalohori BPR: Formulating an action plan for the development of the Kalohori BPR, including delineating the area, collecting property ownership data, identifying existing businesses, and conducting a preliminary assessment of technical and urban planning parameters
Deliverables
Two key deliverables were completed as part of the project:
Action Plan: Spatial reorganization and restructuring of IICs in the Region of Central Macedonia.
Preliminary Feasibility Analysis: Development of the Kalohori Business Park of Rehabilitation.
Benefits
This project serves as a critical tool for:
- Spatial Planning Policy: Supporting the region in shaping policies for the spatial reorganization of the industrial sector
- Accelerating Rehabilitation Processes: Facilitating the preparation of necessary actions and institutional procedures for prioritizing IICs in need of rehabilitation
- Strategic Funding Programs: Establishing a data foundation for defining funding programs through national, European, and private resources
