Preliminary Road Design for the Interurban Artery "Xino Nero - Ammochori"

CONSORTIS has undertaken the preliminary road design for the 15-kilometer interurban artery on the "Xino Nero - Ammochori" section, part of Vertical Axis 50 "Kozani - Florina - Niki" of the Egnatia Odos. This axis connects the city of Florina, a mid-level urban area, to the Egnatia Odos and serves as an extension of Branch V of the Trans-European Corridor X, facilitating the cross-border connection between Greece and North Macedonia.

The study includes:

• Design of grade-separated and roundabout intersections: Planning intersections to ease traffic congestion
• Study of the parallel road network: Developing infrastructure to support local transportation needs

The Problem

The current road network faces significant challenges, including:

• Insufficient road connectivity between Florina and the Egnatia Odos
• Increased traffic pressure due to the absence of grade-separated intersections
• Limited safety for drivers and pedestrians
• Incomplete parallel road infrastructure to serve local communities

The Solution

The preliminary road design proposes:

• Designing grade-separated intersections: To alleviate traffic congestion and enhance safety
