Preparation of Technical Studies for the Upgrading of Irrigation Networks in the Local Community of Stathmos Mourion, Municipality of Kilkis
The Hydraulic Studies Department of Consortis undertook the preparation of technical studies to facilitate the upgrading of irrigation networks in the Local Community of Stathmos Mourion, Municipality of Kilkis. The study focuses on the water distribution network serving irrigation units, starting from the supply reservoir.
The Problem
The existing irrigation network in the area faces significant operational challenges due to aging infrastructure and wear. Frequent failures in the main water transport pipelines cause delays and increase maintenance costs, while the current network layout does not meet modern irrigation needs.
The Solution
The Hydraulic Studies Department of Consortis developed a comprehensive upgrade study, taking into account:
- Reconstruction and Replacement of the Network: Full replacement of the old irrigation network is proposed based on hydraulic checks performed
- Expansion of the Study Area: Following an analysis of the natural boundaries of the area, the study expanded from the initial 1,580 hectares to a total area of approximately 2,150 hectares
- Zoning: The new network design is based on the geospatial characteristics of the plots to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the proposed irrigation program
- Project Scheduling: The timeline for project implementation was defined to ensure optimal resource management
The Benefits
The implementation of this study is expected to bring multiple benefits:
- Improved Irrigation Operations: Reliable and efficient water distribution to irrigation units
- Reduced Operational Issues: Minimization of failures and maintenance through the use of modern infrastructure
- Increased Productivity: Enhanced agricultural output due to the rational water distribution
- Economic Efficiency: Lower management and maintenance costs for the network
With its expertise, the Hydraulic Studies Department of Consortis reaffirms its commitment to supporting sustainable agricultural development, enhancing productivity and efficiency for the local community.
